On March 10, 2022 Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan released interim charges. While most of the charges are not related to water districts, many of the interim charges for the Natural Resources Committee (p. 22) address water utilities and flood infrastructure. Specifically, Natural Resources Committee Interim Charge No. 3, requires the committee to:
Examine the condition of Texas’ water and flood mitigation infrastructure capabilities and consider future infrastructure needs. Evaluate sustainable funding sources to provide for water project development and infrastructure repair and replacement. Examine and make recommendations for cost-effective improvements that enhance the state’s available water supply and improve the state’s ability to desalinate seawater.
AWBD will monitor the interim charges and develop legislative principles and priorities for the 88th Legislature, which will convene in January 2023.
